Conductor Bio:
Marissa Kerbel has served as the conductor of HaZamir Cincinnati since the fall of 2017 when she founded the chapter. Marissa is currently pursuing Master of Music Degrees in Piano Performance and Music Theory at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music where she completed her Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance in 2019. Marissa’s primary teachers have included Marvin Blickenstaff, Michael Chertock, and James Tocco, and she has been featured in a master class with From the Top’s Christopher O’Riley. Marissa is active as both a soloist and collaborator and is interested in innovative programming which is relevant to the 21st century audience. As a scholar, Marissa’s research focuses on 20th century approaches to tonality and 21st century popular music with a particular interest in audience perception. Marissa teaches music theory at the University of Cincinnati and Peraza Music Workshop and piano at Piano Sensei. In the summers, you can find her working as the Music Director at Germantown Academy’s summer belfry program in Fort Washington, PA. Marissa was recently appointed as a substitute keyboardist for the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami, FL, and she will serve as Principal Keyboard in the CCM Philharmonia and Ensemble Keyboard in the Cincinnati New Music Ensemble for the 2021-2022 concert season.
