The Story
Behind the Song
The music for Pitchu Li was inspired by a walk in Van Cortlandt Park where Cantor Gerald Cohen was surrounded by the beauty of nature, and felt that those same feelings lie at the heart of Judaism. While the text of this piece is taken from the Hallel (Praise) service which is recited on Festivals, Cantor Cohen believes that every day, not just holidays, are days of celebration that should be cherished.
Pitchu Li was commissioned by the Zamir Choral Foundation through the Jeanne and Irwin Mandell Fund for New Music and HaZamir debuted this special song at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center at their 2019 Gala Concert.
