Cantor Jack Chomsky has served Congregation Tifereth Israel of Columbus, Ohio since 1982. A graduate of Brown University and the Cantors Institute of the Jewish Theological Seminary (now known as the H.L. Miller Cantorial School), he has been involved in every facet of Jewish music-making throughout the Columbus Jewish community and is a national leader in his profession – having served as President of the Cantors Assembly from 2011 to 2013. Cantor Chomsky has been a leading activist in social justice and interfaith programs in central Ohio. He co-founded KOLEINU, the Jewish Community adult chorus, in 1993, and established HaZamir Columbus, a local branch of the distinguished international HaZamir program, in 2012. Cantor Chomsky is deeply involved in the growing interest in Jewish spirituality, and known widely for his writings on tefillah (Jewish prayer) and other aspects of Jewish life, including an occasional blog titled “The Cantor Speaks.” He loves conducting HaZamir -- both locally and nationally, and is very inspired by the dedication and talent of HaZamirniks.
