Conductor Bio:

Cantor Moshe Bear is the musical director of HaZamir Long Island. He  has been an active cantor in New York  City and Long Island for the past 23 years and presently serves as the hazzan of Temple Gates of Prayer-Shaarei Tefillah in Flushing, NY. Originally from the deep South, Cantor Bear studied at Vanderbilt University and the Jewish Theological Seminary and was ordained at the Academy for Jewish Religion in New York City. He has many years of experience as a Jewish concert artist in the U.S., Europe and Israel, specializing in classical Yiddish song (He is the Passover cantor of the Yiddish Artists and Friends-Actors Club); and he is the current New York Metropolitan Region chairperson of the Cantors Assembly. Cantor Bear is deeply committed to HaZamir as a parent as well as conductor. He experienced one of the great joys of his life sharing a solo with his son Nathaniel in a HaZamir concert last year at Lincoln Center. He is most grateful that the broad tradition and beauty  of Jewish choral music—which he learned as a cantorial student from Matthew Lazar—has now been embraced by his own son. This is HaZamir's incredible inter-generational gift to his family and to the Jewish People.
