Conductor Bio:

Brian J. Mayer, cantor of Temple Emanu-El in Providence, since 1989, has been a HaZamir conductor for 16 years. He is the proud father of 4 sons, all of whom sang in HaZamir and the HaZamir Chamber Choir. In his Temple, he has established a music department that includes three choirs, The Shabbat Chai Band and a klezmer band. In 2009, he was the Artistic Director of the award winning Shining Through Broken Glass: A Kristallnacht Concert, which featured Leonard Nimoy. Cantor Dr. Mayer, a recognized scholar of Hazzanut (cantorial music), is also Associate Professor of Jewish Music and Dean of the School of Jewish Music at Hebrew College, in Newton, MA. Prior to his appointment at Hebrew College, he taught for 14 years at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York as Assistant Professor of Hazzanut.
